Who was Slim Aarons?
Slim Aarons was an American photographer born in New York in the year 1916. The main photographs that he was famous for were those of jet-setters, socialites and celebrities. He also served in the US army in the 2nd World War and worked there as a photographer in West Point. He also received a Purple Heart for his services as a combat photographer in the US army. After returning as a war veteran, he moved to California and started shooting celebrities and models. The most famous Slim Aarons Poster through which he appeared on the horizon was “Kings of Hollywood”. In this photo, famous Hollywood artists Clark Gable, Van Heflin, Gary Cooper, and James Stewart are seen sitting and relaxing in a bar in California in full formal wear.
Early life:
There are a number of reasons why Aarons holds the distinctive place as a photographer in the US. He rose to such fame that his works also appeared in the most famous magazines like Life, Town & Country, and Holiday magazines. Another very distinctive feature about his life, which came to be known long after his death was that he came from a humble background. He belonged to a family of Jewish immigrants. He was raised as an orphan and even his mother suffered from mental health issues due to which she was admitted into a psychiatric hospital. Photography Career:
The reason why his photography is so much appreciated is because it has the element of highest form of originality in it. He never ever used a make-up artist or a stylist for the people he used to photograph. The main moto of his photography was that he captured “attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places. Even in an interview he said that it was through his experience in combat photography that he came to know that there was nothing prettier and no beach more attractive than the one which is “decorated with beautiful, semi-nude girls tanning in a tranquil sun”. Another one of his most famous posters is the one which he shot at Richard Neutra’s Kaufmann House, in which Nelda Linsk is the model. The pictures had such a reputation that all his work was bought off by Mark Getty, who is the co-founder of Getty Images, in 1997 when he visited Aarons.
